This well-designed, well-built dairy was constructed approximately six years ago on 480 acres of irrigated farmland 14 miles southeast of Portales. An additional 320 acres of irrigated farmland that is two miles east of the dairy is included.Ê Another 2,240 acres in four separate tracts are also available if desired (see Arch Area Farms). The dairy is approximately 1/4 mile from pavement on a good all-weather road.

The milking parlor is a double-35 parallel that the owner says will handle 3000 cows on a twice per day schedule. There is currently pen space with lockups for 2400 head and the dirt work has been completed for additional pens. The milking parlor faces north with the cows entering and exiting from the south aside. There is an apartment above the offices, equipment rooms and milk storage area. There is a digital truck scale and an office at the front entrance to the dairy.

A separate building houses a working chute, tilting table for trimming feet and an area for milking treated cows. There is a commodity barn with multiple bays and a nearby covered hay storage area. Waste and runoff water go into a lagoon system and can then be pumped onto the adjoining fields. There is an older farmhouse where the manager lives plus another area with a small house and Quonset barn used for a repair shop. Calves are raised in a long row of individual hutches.

The dairy is located on 480 acres that is one mile from east to west and 3/4 mile from north to south (the south 1/4 of this section is part of the addition land that is available). There are two 1/4-mile center-pivot sprinkler irrigation systems on the west half of the 480 acres and one the east half. The two west sprinklers (Zimmatic on the north and Gifford Hill on the south) which overlap are nozzled for 500 gpm each and can be run one at a time with water supplied by 4 wells.Ê The east sprinkler is a Lockwood that makes a 3/4 circle and is nozzled for 300 gpm and supplied by 3 wells. These 7 wells which are approximately 180 feet deep have submersible electric motors and pumps and the motors are thought to be 10 hp each. There are two additional wells with submersible electric motors and pumps and storage tanks that supply water to the dairy and houses. The fields are relatively level with mostly good loamy fine sand soils.

The 320 acres two miles east of the dairy are two adjoining quarter sections each with a 1/4-mile center-pivot sprinkler irrigation system. The east sprinkler is a Reinke and the west sprinkler is a Gifford Hill and are each nozzled for 400 gpm and can be run at the same time. There are 3 wells on the west quarter and 5 wells on the east quarter which are approximately 180 feet deep. The wells all have submersible electric motors and pumps and are tied together with high pressure underground plastic line. The terrain of these two quarters is rolling and the soils are considerably more sandy that the other 480 acres.

This is a very nice dairy on 800 acres in a prime location. Additional irrigated farmland is also available
